How Tavo works.

Everything in the app, in the order you'll meet it. If something here doesn't match what you see, email tavosupport@gmail.com and we'll fix one or the other.

Getting started

Tavo has three pages, along the bar at the bottom: Catalog (your lists), Today (what's due today), and Upcoming (the month, and the week ahead). The + in the corner makes a task wherever you are, and a list when you're in the Catalog.

Sign in with Apple, Google or an email address the first time. That's what puts the same lists on your phone, iPad and Mac. Tasks are written to the device in front of you first, so the app works with no signal and catches up later.

Tasks

Making one. Tap +, type, and press Done. A task gets a date an hour from now unless you change it. Type it the way you'd say it — “dentist friday at 3pm” — and Tavo offers the date; tap the offer to take it, or ignore it.

The chips. Under the title: the list it goes in, a pin to hold it at the top of that list, the date, a repeat once there's a date, and a priority.

Reminders, steps and notes sit below. A step is a checklist inside the task. Notes are anything worth remembering.

Opening a task later shows the same page, with the bin bottom-left. Changes save as you make them.

Finishing one. Tap the circle, or swipe right. Swipe left to move it to tomorrow; further to pick a time; further still to delete. Deleted tasks go to the Archive, where they can be put back.

Lists

Making one. In the Catalog, tap +. The color page comes up first; pick a color and the list's page opens in it with the name ready to type. The list already exists — nothing to save. Close it with the cross.

Changing one. Open a list and tap the pencil in the corner: Color, Icon, Place and Hide list pop out as words. Tap the name at the top to rename it. The arrows top-right order the tasks, send a copy as text, share the list, or delete it.

Selecting several. The other corner button marks tasks; the words above it finish, pin, move or delete the chosen ones together.

Two layouts. The Catalog shows lists as rows or as tall cards with their tasks written out; the button in the header swaps between them.

Today

Everything due today, in the order it's due. A task with no date stays in its list, in the Catalog. Overdue tasks appear above with a button to move them all to today. Your calendar's appointments for the day sit alongside if you've allowed that.

When the last task is ticked, the page shows the day done and tomorrow's first few tasks waiting.

Upcoming and the timetable

The month, with each day washed in the colors of the lists that have something due. Tap a day and it appears under the month with its tasks and appointments; under that, This week lists everything due in the next seven days, with the next thing due at the top.

Swipe the month sideways to move a month. Hold a day for Add here and Open the day.

The timetable — a tap on the month's name or blank space, or Open the day — rules the day out by the hour, one day or three side by side. Hold a task there and drag it to a better time. Tap an empty hour to make a task at that time.

Reminders

At a time. A task with a date reminds you at the time, or before it — the row under the task opens into the choices. Several can be on at once.

At a place. Put a place on a task, or on a whole list, and Tavo reminds you when you arrive or leave. iOS does the watching and only wakes Tavo at the edge of the place; where you've been is never recorded. Place reminders need “while using” location permission.

Notifications off? The reminders section says so, with a button to Settings. Nothing can be delivered until they're back on.

The morning summary is one notification a day listing what's due. It's optional, in Settings.

Sharing a list

Open a list, tap the arrows top-right, then Share…. Make a link and send it however you like — whoever opens it joins the list on their own Tavo — or invite somebody by email address instead. They can add and tick things off, or only look — your choice, and you can take it back any time. Taking a link back also removes everybody who joined through it. They never see your other lists. Send a copy sends the list as plain text instead, to anyone, in any app.

Siri, the widget and Apple Reminders

“Hey Siri, add a task to Tavo” and “Hey Siri, what's on today in Tavo” both work. “Remind me to…” always goes to Apple's Reminders — no app can take that phrase — so Tavo mirrors your default Reminders list into your default Tavo list. Tick something off in either and it ticks off in both; the only thing Tavo ever writes to Reminders is a tick.

The widget shows today's tasks on the home screen and lock screen, with a circle you can tick from the widget itself.

Your account and sync

Your tasks are kept on your device and in your Tavo account, so your other devices have them. There's no sync switch because there's nothing to choose: the app works offline and sends changes when it can. Nobody reads your tasks except to fix a fault you've asked about. Tavo counts which features get used — never a word you wrote — and the switch for that is in Settings.

Deleting everything

Settings → Account → Delete account. Every list, task and tag you have is erased, on your devices and in your account, and nothing is kept on our side.
